Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. Parents, school staff, and other caring adults have a role to play in preventing bullying. At JC Ellis, we work daily to prevent and eliminate bullying. We have a no tolerance policy for bullying. Since October is National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, the PBIS committee along with JC Ellis students, teachers and staff implement the follow activities to further increase bullying awareness and prevention for our students.
MONDAY – Oct. 2 – Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention – Monday, October 2. JCE will join the world-wide effort to signify the importance of Bullying Prevention and Awareness. The color blue was chosen specifically because in many diverse cultures blue brings peace, importance and confidence. Students may wear blue shirts & jeans.
TUESDAY – Oct. 3 – Students will sign a pledge to speak out and prevent bullying wherever or whenever it occurs.
WEDNESDAY – Oct 4 – JCE Student Council will sponsor a Change the Culture – Stop Bullying Poster Contest. Posters are due Wednesday, October 4. Judges will choose the winners on Friday, October 6. Students and teachers will view and discuss grade-appropriate Stop Bullying videos available at http://www.stopbullying.gov/kids/webisodes/
THURSDAY – Oct 5 – School-wide viewing of The Juice Box Bully – Have you ever seen a bully in action and done nothing about it? The kids at Pete’s new school get involved, instead of being bystanders. When Pete begins to behave badly, his classmates teach him about “The Promise”. Will Pete decide to shed his bullying habits and make “The Promise”? After viewing, students will complete comprehension activities, vocabulary practice, and written responses.
FRIDAY – Oct 6 – Poster Contest winners announced. Students will receive copies of The Promise.
